About harp for sale

A harp is a string instrument that consists of a series of parallel strings set in a frame. It is played by plucking the strings with the player's fingers.

Pedal harps

Also known as concert harps, pedal harps are large harps that are meant to be played in orchestras and be used in classical music. The triangular frame is typically six feet in height, around 182 cm, and usually has 47 strings There are seven strings per octave and a pedal alters the octave of the strings, allowing music to be played in any key. The player sits next to the harp and plucks the harp strings with both hands.

Celtic harps

The Celtic harp, also known as a Clarsach or an Irish harp, is a traditional harp from the Celtic nations located in the northwest region of Europe, ie Scotland, Ireland, etc. Early forms of the Celtic harp were recorded around the 8th century. The Celtic harp is usually smaller than a pedal harp, about 32 to 54 inches, or about 81 to 137 cm, in height. The triangular frame holds 23 to 36 strings.

Jaw harps

A jaw harp is also known as a mouth harp. A jaw harp is tiny, about four to eight inches. It consists of a round frame and one, or sometimes more, tines. The instrument is played by holding the frame in the teeth or lips and plucking the tines. The shape of the mouth can be manipulated to create overtones.

Lyre harps

Technically a lyre is a different instrument from a harp. Historically, however, there was little distinction made between the two. For example, a kinnor harp, an ancient Israelite instrument, is translated to lyre or harp. In modern terms, though, a lyre has a curved neck, while a traditional harp has a straight one. A lyre harp is small and meant to be held in the hand. It is played like a traditional harp, though with one hand.
